For rhinoplasty, facial growth is expected to be complete — generally around 17 for women and 18 for men. Otoplasty can be performed from 5–6 years, because the ear completes its growth early.

Most patients report blockage and a feeling of pressure rather than pain. This is usually controlled with simple painkillers and eases quickly after the first few days.

Light walking is allowed early. Weight training and bending movements are usually postponed for 3–4 weeks. Contact sports generally wait 2–3 months, until bone healing is complete.

Smoking impairs tissue perfusion and wound healing. You will be asked to stop for a few weeks before and after surgery. If stopping is not possible, the decision is made together after the increased risks have been discussed in detail.
